3月4日，继续我们的讲座004讲，本期内容是2018年12月六级考试翻译题，主题是“图书馆”。
原文：
中国越来越重视公共图书馆，并鼓励人们充分加以利用。 新近公布的统计数字表明，中国的公共图书馆数量在逐年增长。 许多图书馆通过翻新和扩建，为读者创造了更为安静、舒适的环境。 大型公共图书馆不仅提供种类繁多的参考资料，而且定期举办讲座、展览等活动。 近年来，也出现了许多数字图书馆，从而节省了存放图书所需要的空间。 一些图书馆还推出了自助服务系统，使读者借书还书更加方便，进一步满足了读者的要求。
下面我们做逐句分析。
一、中国越来越重视公共图书馆，并鼓励人们充分加以利用。
解析：
“重视”最常见的译法是pay attention to，除此之外还有attach importance to； think highly of； take sth. seriously； stress on以及单个动词value和treasure等。
鼓励：encourage，反义词discourage，名词encouragement
充分利用：make full use of，也可使用 make the best of； make the most of； take full advantage of 等。
译文：China is paying more and more attention to public libraries and encouraging people to make full use of them.
二、新近公布的统计数字表明，中国的公共图书馆数量在逐年增长。
解析：
1、“新近公布的统计数字”中心词是statistics，“新近公布”用作定语，可使用分词newly-released。
例：a newly-built house新建的房子（注意连字符）
“数量在增长”用the number of …… is growing
2、a number of和the number of是中学时期常考的语法点，前者是修饰词，中心词是后接的复数形式的可数名词；后者中心词是“number”指数字，尽管也后接复数形式的可数名词，但谓语动词与the number有关，使用单数形式。
3、如果表示单纯的动作重复，用year after year（年复一年）
如果表示数量变动，用year by year（逐年）
译文：According to the newly-released statistics, the number of public libraries in China is growing year by year.
三、许多图书馆通过翻新和扩建，为读者创造了更为安静、舒适的环境。
解析：主句是“图书馆创造……的环境”，而是“通过翻新和扩建”方式状语。
根据句意判断，以“现在完成时”为宜，强调“截至目前”的成果。
译文：A large number of libraries have created a quietier and more comfortable environment for readers through refurbishedment and expansion.
四、大型公共图书馆不仅提供种类繁多的参考资料，而且定期举办讲座、展览等活动。
解析：
1、“提供”可使用provide, offer, supply, furnish等。
2、“种类繁多”可用various或a variety of……，为了表示种类之多，可在variety前加great, wide等词。 也可使用a good range of……
3、不仅……而且……最常用的译法是not only/just……but (also)……
也可使用连接词besides, moreover, furthermore, in addition, what’s more等。
4、“定期”用regular。
这个词在四六级中出现频率很高。
如四级考试中：

如六级考试中：

译文：Large public libraries not only provide a wide variety of reference materials, but also regularly hold lectures, exhibitions and other activities.
五、近年来，也出现了许多数字图书馆，从而节省了存放图书所需要的空间。
解析：
1、“近年来”是常考的翻译短语，in recent years，时态用现在完成时。
2、“出现了许多数字图书馆”和“从而节省了存放图书所需要的空间”之间可以用“so that”连接，后接状语从句。 （如果较正式文本，可用thus； thereby； thereupon then； so then accordingly等）
也可以将前半部分作为主句，后半部分作为非限制性定语从句，用which引导的同时，which还可以代指前面提到的事物。
译文：There have also been digital libraries in recent years, which saves the space needed to store books.
六、一些图书馆还推出了自助服务系统，使读者借书还书更加方便，进一步满足了读者的要求。
解析：
1、“推出”在本句中实际是“introduce”,这一点可能很多考生想不到。
introduce的含义很多，除了“介绍，使了解，使初次接触”之外，还有“引进，推行，首次引入”等。
2、“进一步”可用further。
further可以是far的比较级之一，也可以单独作为形容词、副词和动词使用，意为“更进一步的（地），深一层的（地）； 而且；促进，推动； 增进”等。
3、“满足需求”meet the demand of，satisfy / meet the needs of……
译文：Some libraries have also introduced a self-service system that makes it easier to borrow books and return books, further satisfying the needs of readers.
